Hey Tribe! So if you haven’t noticed, my blog posts have been centered around Halloween all month. We will go back to regular posts next month but as of now, let’s get scary! I really love Halloween haha.
Halloween movies. What makes the best scare and what makes the worst? Is it truly scary or is it just silly? Well, I’m about to tell you all about the ones that made me hide under the bed for the rest of the night! 😛 I’ll rate them on my own personal, scary-o-meter. 10 is scariest–1 is very tolerable!
- The Babadook
Nope. Nope. Nope. I don’t like scary movies with scary children in them in general. I mean, why do kids have to be so creepy?? Samuel, who is the main character, is 6 years old and reads a pop up book about a creepy ghoul named Mister Babadook. He screams bloody murder most of the movie about seeing him and tries to convince his mom that he IS real. I won’t spoil it but ugh. This movie made me a nervous wreck!
I’d give it 6.5 out of 10 pumpkins on the scary-o-meter!
2. Paranormal Activity….ALL of them.
I have no idea why these are so scary but they are! Maybe its the jump scares or maybe it’s that fact that ghosties are really hard to get rid of apparently but no matter the reason…they all make me hide my face like a 3-year-old. Each new movie that releases seems to be scarier than it’s predecessor!
I’ll give it 8 out of 10 witches on the scary-o-meter!
3. Get Out
Ok, Jordan Peele, you got me with this one. This movie isn’t bloody, gory, or filled with jump scares. It’s psychologically terrifying. I personally had bad dreams after watching this. The fear that someone could have control over you mind is….well, scary. I don’t even want to think about it! If you’d like to scare your brain to death then check this movie out quick. You won’t regret the emotional torment.
I give it 10 out of 10 bats on the scary-o-meter!
This has to be where my fear of clowns came from. The original version absolutely terrified me. There’s just something really horrifying about a clown with teeth! Eeeek! The new version also seems pretty scary but it just can’t top the feelings I had from the original. I know one thing to be true….I refuse to walk too close to storm drains so I guess it made a big impact on my life. haha!
I give it 8.5 out of 10 bugs on the scary-o-meter. They lost some points because the new IT clown is kind of ridiculous at times. lol
5. The Strangers
Ok so this is one of my WORST nightmares come true. I HATED this movie because it’s realistic. This situation could really happen unlike some crazy movie monster that we know doesn’t exist in the back of our minds. People busting up into your house to murder you just because you were the randomly selected is so terrifying. I mean this HAS to scare everyone else, right?
I give it 9.5 out of 10 ghosts on the scary-o-meter.
Gaslight is a 1940’s movie that will not disappoint. Although it’s older, black and white, and lacks special effects; It just doesn’t need future technology. This movie has a pretty sinister plot if you’ll give it a chance. Is Bella losing her mind or does Paul have a secret? You’ll have to watch and find out.
I give it 6 out of 10 skulls on the scary-o-meter.
7. Let Me In
This is a remake of “Let The Right One In” but trust me, it’s a good remake. Matt Reeves’ tells us a very unusual vampire story that is not only respectful of the original movie but also different enough to keep us interested. It was pretty scary for me but not too scary. The relationship between Owen and Abby is so peculiar that it’s almost cringe-worthy but in a good way. I enjoyed this one and it’s definitely worth the watch!
I give it 7 out of 10 knives on the scary-o-meter.
8. The Shining
Jack Torrence has completely lost his mind while working in this crazy hotel. Jack is a struggling writer who takes a winter job as a caretaker of the Overlook Hotel. This decision totally backfires as Jack teeters on the edge of insanity while being in the hotel’s presence….or more precisely….the “people” that inhabit the hotel. You’ll love this classic scary movie if you haven’t seen it yet. Of course, Stephen King wrote the book it’s based off of so you know it won’t disappoint you. You’ll never hear the phrase, “come play with us” the same EVER again!
I give it 9 out of 10 creepy kids on the scary-o-meter.
9. The Exorcist
Ok, so this is another classic that every single person should see at least once in their life. If you say that this movie doesn’t scare you (at least at some point in your life) then you’re totally lying. KIDDING…but really, it scared me to death as a kid. Honestly, this movie still gives me the creeps. Regan is just a scary little thing, possessed by an even scarier BIG thing. Watch and see how it turns out for her. Oh and her possessed voice is pretty frightening to say the least.
I give it 8 out of 10 sugar skulls on the scary-o-meter.
10. The Omen
Three cheers for yet another creepy kid! This is such an incredibly sinister movie! Damien sure does know how to put the fear into you. The iconic movie has definitely shaped the horror genre we know and love today with elements of despair, evil, death, and doom. Every death scene in this movie is memorable, but the suicide of Damien’s nanny at his birthday party particularly stands out. Once you watch this movie, you’ll never forget a bit of it and you probably won’t sleep for a solid month.
I give it 10 out of 10 zombies on the scary-o-meter.
Alright, that’s it for now. I’ll have another creepy post for everyone very soon. Thanks so much for reading! Let me know in the comments which movie has scared you the most in life? The least? I’d love to hear it!
With love and magic,
P.S. Check out my live video of my transformation into a pretty (and VERY simple) unicorn! Happy almost Halloween! ♥
